Guwahati, Feb. 15 -- A day after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the the proposed underwater railway-cum-road tunnel under the Brahmaputra river will be completed in the next five years.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the CM said that the proposed underwater road-cum-rail tunnel would connect Gohour and Numaligarh reducing about 240 kms of travel distance to just 34 kms which can be covered in just 20 minutes compared to six hours now.

Talking about the iconic infrastructure project, Sarma said that, once completed, it would be world's second such underwater railway cum road bridge after similar link connecting Berlin and Denmark.
