Chandigarh, Nov. 19 -- In a shocking incident, municipal workers transported an unclaimed body in a garbage collection vehicle for cremation in Phagwara, Punjab, triggering widespread criticism. The body had been found near the Chaheru railway station by the Government Railway Police (GRP) four days earlier. With no one coming forward to claim it, the hospital informed the municipal authorities to handle the cremation.
According to officials, the GRP kept the deceased in the mortuary of the Civil Hospital for 72 hours, as required under procedure.
