United Nations, Aug. 7 -- The United Nations welcomes a possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, spokesman Farhan Haq said on Thursday.

"We will have to see what happens. But clearly, we do welcome all efforts that are intended to bring about peace in Ukraine, in line with the UN Charter, international law and the resolutions of the General Assembly and the Security Council," Haq said.

On Wednesday, President Trump mentioned that there is a good chance he would soon meet with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, although he did not reveal the specific timing or location of the meeting.
