New York, July 30 -- A UN-backed food security agency has issued a grim warning about "the worst case scenario of famine" unfolding in Gaza, even as Israel faces mounting pressure from international community to allow more food into the territory.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) said in an alert that due to intensification of conflict and large-scale displacement, access to food and other essential items and services has plummeted drastically, causing widespread starvation, malnutrition and disease leading to hunger-related deaths.

The IPC said that the alert is intended to "draw urgent attention to the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation" but doesn't constitute a formal classification of famine, reports C...
