Shillong, March 27 -- The recently renovated Umiam dam is being closely monitored by the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) and the Power department and all steps are being taken to ensure its safety, Meghalaya Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal said on Thursday.
Mondal said that with the completion of the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) work, the dam is much safer now.
"We have restricted the passing of heavy vehicles considering the safety of the Dam only. We are constantly monitoring. Our people are stationed there and we have even kept a police force there so that the safety of the Dam is maintained," he said.
