Kyiv/Moscow, Aug. 24 -- Ukraine launched attacks on Russian energy sites on the eve of its Independence Day, firing drones overnight in the region of Kursk.

The attack caused a fire in one of the nuclear sites and damaged a transformer, though it was quickly put out and the radiation levels were at normal, the plant announced on Telegram.

"Radiation levels at the site and in surrounding areas remained unchanged," read the statement.

As per Russian officials, the plant, located about 50km from the border with Ukraine, had been targeted by a drone raid, reports RT.
