London, Dec. 12 -- The UK Royal Navy said that it has tracked a Russian submarine moving through the English Channel for three days, underscoring heightened vigilance as the UK steps up efforts to counter what it calls growing "underwater threats" from Moscow.
Releasing an official statement, the Royal Navy confirmed that the Kilo-class submarine Krasnodar and its accompanying tug Altay were monitored continuously as they transited westward from the North Sea, through the Strait of Dover and into the Channel.
A Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel, RFA Tidesurge, was deployed with an embarked Merlin helicopter from 814 Naval Air Squadron to shadow the Russian vessels.
