London, July 25 -- The administration of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government is facing growing calls - both from within the political opposition as well as social groups -- to extend recognition to Palestine as a sovereign state, following France's decision to formally extend recognition in September.

The move by French President Emmanuel Macron has stirred a renewed debate in Westminster over the UK's long-standing position on the issue, reports BBC.
