New York, March 23 -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday in the final minutes of the trading session after a week of big swings.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 32.03 points, or 0.08 percent, to 41,985.35, while the S&P 500 added 4.67 points, or 0.08 percent, to 5,667.56, snapping its weekly losing streak. The Nasdaq Composite led the gains, rising 92.43 points, or 0.52 percent, to 17,784.05.

Despite the overall market uptick, eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in negative territory, with real estate and materials leading the declines, down 1.02 percent and 1.00 percent, respectively.
