Chandigarh, Aug. 9 -- : Two soldiers from Punjab lost their lives in an ongoing encounter with terrorists in the Akhlan forests of Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district.
The fallen soldiers, identified as Sepoy Harminder Singh, 26, from Badinpur village in Fatehgarh Sahib, and Lance Naik Pritpal Singh, 28, from Manupur village in Khanna, made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
Pritpal Singh, married just 11 months ago, was eagerly awaited by his wife for the festival, while Harminder Singh's mother and sisters were hoping for his safe return.
The operation, codenamed Akhlan, began on August 1 and entered its ninth day on Saturday.
