Moscow, April 13 -- Two sites are currently under consideration for the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Belarus, namely the additional unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Ostrovets and a new NPP in Mogilev region, Director of the Second Department of CIS Countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexey Polishchuk told Sputnik in an interview out on Sunday.

"Now we are considering the options of constructing in Belarus either an additional, third, power unit of the already operating Belarusian NPP in Ostrovets or a new double-unit NPP in the Mogilev region," Polishchuk said.

Additionally, Belarusian partners are interested in pursuing cooperation with Russia in the nuclear energy sector, Polishchuk said.
