Kannauj, Jan. 5 -- Two prisoners escaped from Kannauj District Jail late at night, allegedly taking advantage of a new year party held inside the premises. The inmates reportedly tied several blankets together to make a rope and scaled the jail's boundary wall, which is more than 22 feet high, officials confirmed on Monday.

According to officials, all prisoners were sent back to their barracks at night on Sunday, but no headcount was conducted. The escape came to light the next morning during the routine roll call, when two inmates were found missing. Initially, the jail administration tried to conceal the incident and conducted a secret search within the jail and nearby areas.
