Kolkata, May 4 -- Ahead of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to trouble-hit Murshidabad district, two police officials of Shamsherganj PS where much of the violence took place, have been suspended, official sources said on Sunday.

Jangipur Police district Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Shah in an order on Saturday suspended Shibo Prasad Ghosh, the former Officer-in-Charge of Shamsherganj PS, and Sub-Inspector Md Jalaluddin Ahamed, for "gross misconduct and dereliction of duty".

Both the officials of Jangipur Police district, were posted at Shamsherganj when the April 11-12 violence over the Waqf Amendment Bill rocked Murshidabad. The OC was later transferred.
