Chennai, Feb. 2 -- On the occasion of the World Wetlands Day, Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister MK Stalin said two more bird sanctuaries in State were designated
as Ramsar sites.
Two new sanctuaries added to the Ramsar sites were Sakkarakottaiand Therthangal
Bird sanctuaries in the southern Ramanathapuram district.
With this the number of Ramsar sites in Tamil Nadu has gone up to 20, the highest
in the country.
Of this, 19 sites were designated as Ramsar sites after the launch of the Tamil Nadu
Wetlands Mission in 2021.
He said his Dravidian Model Government remains committed to conserving wetlands
and will continue to take proactive steps to protect the rich natural heritage.
