Koderma, March 26 -- Two persons, including a woman, were killed after being trampled by a wild elephant in Koderma district of Jharkhand, officials said on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Marriampur and Bonakali areas under Koderma police station limits, triggering panic among residents.

According to local sources, the elephant was first spotted near Marriampur around 8 pm, where it attacked and killed a woman. Later, when villagers attempted to drive it away, the elephant trampled to death Baleshwar Soren (40) near Bonakali Mahila College.

Fear has gripped residents of Bonakali and Marriampur, with reports suggesting that the elephant is still present in nearby forest areas.
