Bhubaneswar, Oct. 3 -- In a major security lapse, two hardcore criminals lodged in Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack escaped by scaling the high wall of the prison late last night.

Odisha Director General of Prisons, Sushant Kumar Nath, has suspended the jail's chief warder and a warder in connection with the incident.

The escaped undertrial prisoners have been identified as Raja Sahani and Chandrakant Kumar, both residents of Bihar. They were shifted from Jajpur jail to Choudwar circle jail.

The hardcore criminals were accused in the armed robbery at Panda Jewellery Shop in Panikoili, Jajpur district, on January 4, 2025, where they allegedly opened fire during the heist, killing two people, including a shop employee.
