Mandi, Sept. 3 -- A massive landslide struck Sundernagar area of Mandi district early Tuesday morning, burying a residential house under tons of debris.

The house, owned by a local woman, had four tenants living in it along with the owner.

Rescue teams rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies of a mother and her young daughter from the rubble. The house owner and two other tenants are still missing, and a search operation is underway with the help of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and local volunteers.

Officials said incessant rains over the past 48 hours had loosened the soil, triggering the collapse.

Heavy machinery has been deployed to clear the debris, though persistent rainfall is hampering operations.
