Chamba, Aug. 20 -- Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district experienced two mild earthquakes early this morning, spreading panic among residents already reeling under harsh weather conditions.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first tremor struck at 3:27 am with a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale at a depth of 20 kilometers.

Barely an hour later, at 4:39 am, another quake of magnitude 4.0 occurred at a shallower depth of 10 kilometers.

Though the tremors rattled several parts of the district, officials confirmed that there was no loss of life or property.

Deputy Commissioner Chamba, Mukesh Roushan said "the situation remains under control and people need not panic."
