Bhopal, July 9 -- Banking work was adversely affected in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, as nearly 40,000 bank employees of 8,500 bank branches across the state remained on strike as part of the nationwide strike call by various labour unions and organizations.

The bank strike was observed on the call of the All India Bank Employees' Association, All India Bank Officers' Association, and Bank Employees' Federation of India.

The bank employees struck work to press for their 17 demands.

In Bhopal, the functioning of about 400 branches of different banks having almost 5,000 officers and employees, were affected by the strike.
