Meerut, March 4 -- A shocking murder case in Meerut has taken an international turn after a burnt body initially identified as an Indian woman was found to be that of a Turkmenistan national living under a fake identity, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

On February 21, a severely burnt female body was discovered near Bhagwati Farm House in the Mawana area of Meerut.

Police had initially identified the victim as Archita Arora from Delhi. However, investigations later revealed that the deceased was actually Muhabbat, a woman from Turkmenistan who had been living in India under forged documents.

The victim's face had been disfigured with acid, and her hands were burnt in an apparent attempt to erase identifying marks such as tattoos.
