Istanbul, Jan. 6 -- Turkish police have detained 223 suspects over the past 20 days in nationwide operations over their alleged links to a coup attempt in 2016, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Tuesday.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Yerlikaya said the operations targeted individuals allegedly engaged in the Gulen movement's covert structures, including encrypted communications and financial support activities.

Eighty-seven suspects have been arrested and 50 placed under judicial supervision, while legal procedures are ongoing for the remainder, he added.
