Hyderabad, Nov. 13 -- Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has once again written to the Central Government highlighting the problems faced by farmers in procuring soybean, maize and cotton, urging the Centre to provide special relaxations in view of the severe crop losses caused by cyclones, unseasonal rains and unpredictable weather across Telangana.
The minister said soybean was cultivated in 3.66 lakh acres this season with an average expected yield of 7.62 quintals per acre, but the crop suffered extensive damage during harvest due to heavy rains.
Issues such as seed discoloration and wrinkling have left large quantities of the produce outside existing FAQ norms.
