Tumkur, Sept. 19 -- Sri Nischalananda Swamiji today voiced strong objection to the use of terms such as 'Vokkaliga Christian', 'Lingayat Christian' and 'Muslim Christian' in lists related to Karnataka's socio-economic and caste survey. Calling the labels "unsuitable for the present situation", the seer warned they could create unnecessary rifts within Hindu communities.

He urged the state government and the Karnataka Backward Classes Commission to take a clear stand on how caste and religion should be recorded, so that identities are not muddled by mixing faith terms with caste names.
