Tirumala, June 11 -- TTD offers free Annaprasadam to devotees visiting Tirumala for the darshan of Sri Venkateswara as a perpetual sacrificial offering. This noble service began on April 6, 1985, when the "Sri Venkateswara Nitya Annadanam Scheme" was launched at the hands of the then Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. Later, on April 1, 1994, it was formalised as the "Sri Venkateswara Nitya Annadanam Trust" and eventually renamed the "Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust." Initially, meals were served at the old Annadanam Complex opposite Kalyanakatta. To date, the Trust has received donations amounting to around Rs. 2,190 crores.
