Washington, May 9 -- US President Donald Trump has fired the country's longtime Congress Librarian Carla Hayden, in a move that has sparked widespread criticism and condemnation from Democrats.
The first African-American origin woman to hold the post, Hayden was appointed in 2016 for the position.
The Library of Congress is the national library of the US government and the largest in the world, housing over 170 million books and documents from across the world, including some of the country's most important papers.
She received a notification in an email late Thursday from the White House's Presidential Personnel Office, according to CBS News.
