Mumbai, Oct. 30 -- The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Thane has ordered compensation of Rs 1.15 crore to the family members of a couple who lost their lives in a road accident five years ago.

The incident took place on February 2, 2019, when the couple was travelling on a scooter on the Eastern Express Highway.

Akshay Pramod Gupta, 34, an engineer earning Rs 65,000 per month, was riding the scooter with his 32-year-old wife, Aarti Akshay Gupta, and their daughter. The family, residents of Thane city, was travelling at a moderate speed near the Phiroz Shah Mehta Bridge in Vikhroli when a speeding truck approached from behind.
