Agartala, Jan. 23 -- Tripura government is set to buy 18,000 metric tonnes of paddy directly from farmers in the ongoing season, with the procurement initiative slated to commence on January 28 in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, said Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

Chowdhury stated that the procurement will be conducted jointly by the Food and Agriculture departments, and the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy has been increased from Rs 23 to Rs 23.69 per kilogram.

The minister reported that the State has thus far procured a total of 2,44,303.795 metric tonnes of paddy, benefitting 1,25,454 farmers. An amount of Rs 489.71 crore has been allocated to farmers for this procurement, which he indicated has greatly bolstered...
