Agartala, April 25 -- With an estimated 2.87 lakh children in the 0-5 year age group, Tripura has been preparing for an intensive Aadhaar enrolment drive to increase coverage among its youngest residents, officials said here on Friday.

At present, only around 98,000 children-approximately 34 percent-have been issued Aadhaar cards, slightly trailing the national average of 38 percent. The state government announced that Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has entrusted the Health and Family Welfare Department with the responsibility of speeding up enrolment efforts.
