Agartala, Jan. 31 -- Demanding the devolution of the tax share from the existing 42 per cent to 50 per cent, the Tripura government has sought Rs 1.78 lakh crore as a gap grant for 2026-31 from 16th Finance Commission (FC) for 2026-31. The state government has also suggested including two more criteria - infrastructure index and international border for devolution of tax share among the states. It has urged for a higher tax devolution percentage to ensure sufficient funds for welfare schemes and infrastructure projects besides, additional funds for road construction, bridges, power sector improvements, and urban expansion to boost connectivity and economic activities.
