Agartala, Oct. 31 -- Tripura government has reached out to both the Ministry of Railways and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to construct underpasses along stretches that intersect elephant corridors, especially in the Atharamura hill range.

Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma announced that the initiative aims to mitigate the rising incidents of conflict between humans and elephants.

Addressing a gathering to celebrate Wildlife Week, Debbarma reflected on how the state's historical elephant corridor once extended all the way to Chittagong in Bangladesh, allowing wild elephants to traverse large, continuous forest areas.
