Agartala, Oct. 24 -- The Tripura government prohibited the transportation of pigs within the state and from outside the state until further orders.

The decision has been taken to prevent losses faced by pig farmers due to the outbreak of infectious diseases among pigs, said the State's Animal Resources Development officials here.

The notification said, "No pigs may be brought into the state without prior approval from the Department of Animal Resources Development.
