Agartala, May 11 -- The Tripura Power Department, in partnership with the Renewable Energy Development Agency, has embarked on an initiative to provide electricity and clean drinking water to remote hilly areas using solar microgrids.

These regions pose significant challenges for conventional electricity supply, prompting innovative solutions to address local needs, said State Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath after the inauguration of a solar microgrid project in Khabaksa Kami village in Teliamura under Khowai district.

The project has successfully brought electricity to 42 families in the area. Additionally, a community-based solar-powered purified drinking water plant was launched to deliver clean water to residents.
