Agartala, Jan. 1 -- : Urging the adoption of a firm resolution in the New Year against the increasing incidence of non-communicable diseases and cancer, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday called for a lifestyle change and increased awareness of a healthy life.

Dr Saha said as many as 6.8 lakh people in the state were screened for diabetes and high blood pressure last year, and among them, 25,259 were diagnosed with diabetes, while 49,153 were found to have high blood pressure.

Breast cancer screenings were conducted for 5.28 lakh women, and cervical cancer screenings covered one lakh women. Those diagnosed were promptly brought under medical treatment and kept under regular follow-up care.
