Bhubaneswar, July 28 -- Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo today urged Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi to expedite the evacuation of surplus rice procured in the state.

During a meeting in New Delhi, Singh Deo informed the Union Minister that Odisha has achieved a record procurement of 92.64 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy during the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25.

This is equivalent to 62.62 lakh MT of rice,the highest ever in the state's history.

Accompanied by BJP MPs, the Deputy Chief Minister discussed the state's procurement targets for KMS 2024-25 and emphasized the need for urgent lifting of surplus rice by the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
