Jalgaon, Aug. 17 -- In a major jolt to the Congress ahead of the upcoming local body elections, around 25,000 tribal workers from the Khandesh region today joined the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) here.

Traditionally, the tribal community has largely supported the Congress.

Since the last assembly elections, the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) have been facing a wave of desertions, with several senior leaders and grassroots workers shifting towards the ruling Mahayuti alliance.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has seen the largest influx, followed by the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction).
