Ranchi, Dec. 24 -- Traditional tribal heads and representatives of civil society from Scheduled Areas on Wednesday gathered at the Chief Minister's residential office here to welcome the State Cabinet's approval of the Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Rules (PESA), describing the decision as a milestone for tribal self-governance.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren said the approval of the rules reflects the state government's commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of Jharkhand's tribal communities and the vision of the statehood movement. He said the rules would strengthen traditional systems of local governance and secure community rights over land, forests and natural resources in the Scheduled Areas of Jharkhand.
