Chennai, Nov. 2 -- Transforming eco-tourism in India, Trek Tamil Nadu (Trek TN), the state government's flagship trekking initiative across the country's most scenic and ecologically rich landscapes, has completed its first year. With over 15,500 participants so far, the program has set a national benchmark for sustainable, community-driven eco-tourism that seamlessly integrates technology, conservation, and livelihood development.
Encouraged by the overwhelming response, the government plans to expand the program to 40-50 trekking routes in collaboration with the Tourism Department, conduct refresher training and exposure visits for guides, and integrate school and college trekking programs to promote experiential learning.
