Srinagar, June 26 -- A militant has been killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued on Wednesday during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Tral area of south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said.
They said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Branpatheri forest, about 9 km from Tral, in Pulwama following a tip off about the presence of militants.
When the security forces were moving towards a particular area, the militants hiding there opened fire, which was returned, ensuing in an encounter.
The firing has stopped and search operation was going on in the forest area when the reports last came in.
