Kolkata, Sept. 16 -- Train services on Sealdah division's south section of Eastern Railway were affected in the peak hours today after a major fire destroyed at least 10 shops close to platform No 1 in South 24 Parganas, official sources said.

The ER officials said the train services on the Budge-Budge-Majherhat section were suspended for safety measures.

The fire was noticed in a cloth shop in the morning, spread over quickly following winds and destroyed some 10 shops on the same line before two firefighting vehicles arrived and doused the flames.

All the shops had stocked new arrivals of stocks for Durga Puja at Maheshtala near Santoshpur station.
