Khandwa (MP), Oct. 3 -- The toll from the drowning incident during the immersion of Goddess Durga idols on Dussehra in this district's Pandhana area has risen to 11.
The 11 bodies were retrieved from the Ardla pond in Jamli village, 15 km from Pandhana.
According to the administration, people's overenthusiasm caused the tragedy as they ignored the warnings and took the tractor-trolley into the deep water. The vehicle overturned and those seated in it began to drown.
Villagers immediately helped rescue many people but could not save 11, mostly girls aged 15-16 years.
