New Delhi, Dec. 12 -- Delhi woke up to a blanket of toxic air with winds slowing down, trapping the pollutants near the surface, and leaving the residents gasping for fresh breath on Friday.

On Friday morning, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) climbed up to 331 at 7 a.m., according to the data recorded by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The 24-hour rolling average AQI reading for Delhi stood at 349 at 5 pm, climbing up nearly 40 points from Thursday's values, according to the SAMEER app, with PM 10 recorded as the primary pollutant.
