New Delhi, Dec. 13 -- Noida woke up to the worst air in the country on Saturday, topping India's pollution charts as its Air Quality Index (AQI) soared to a hazardous 455, leaving residents of the National Capital Region (NCR) gasping for clean air.

A thick blanket of smog engulfed Noida and its neighbouring cities, as stagnant winds and falling temperatures trapped pollutants close to the ground, sharply degrading air quality across the region.

Air quality in the national Capital slipped into the 'severe' category, with Delhi recording an AQI of 431.
