Bhubaneswar, Dec. 25 -- Senior Maoist leader Ganesh Uike was among four insurgents killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in Odisha's Kandhamal district on Thursday, according to police officials.

Uike, a central committee member of the banned CPI (Maoist) and the outfit's top leader in Odisha, carried a reward of Rs 1.1 crore, according to a senior officer overseeing anti-Naxal operations in the state.

The encounter occurred in a forested area of Chakapad in Kandhamal district. Although he was active in Odisha, Uike was a native of Pullemala village in Telangana's Nalgonda district.
