Ranchi, Sept. 7 -- An encounter between security forces and Maoists in Burjuwa Hills under the Goilkera police station area of West Singhbhum district this morning led to the death of a top Maoist commander.
Police sources confirmed that Amit Hansda, alias Upton, a zonal commander of the CPI (Maoist) carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh, was gunned down during the exchange of fire. Hansda, a native of Bokaro district in Jharkhand, was considered a key figure in the Maoist network and known for his strong influence within the organisation.
