Siliguri, Oct. 6 -- Fear of more rain continues to haunt the people on the hills and in Dooars a day after torrential rains battered Darjeeling terrains killing at least 28 people, official sources said today.

Of the 28 deaths, 22 were reported in the hills and 6 in Dooars of Jalpaiguri district. Over 60 people are injured and many remain missing as the information network was not fully restored in many inaccessible areas.

The Mirik subdivision, a famous tourist spot in Darjeeling, bore the brunt recording 11 deaths as landslides buried several homes. Soureni, a small hamlet, in Mirik lies virtually flattened with five deaths recorded by an NDRF team that extracted the bodies from the rubble and mudslides.
