Meerut, Dec. 12 -- A 22-month-old girl died after being severely burnt in a fire that broke out from a candle in her home at Badhkali village under Daurala police station area.
The child was alone and asleep when the incident occurred, while all family members were attending a wedding ceremony nearby, local residents confirmed on Friday.
According to locals, smoke was first noticed rising from the house's ventilator. Family members and neighbours rushed inside, only to find the toddler completely burnt. They managed to extinguish the flames, but the child could not be saved. Her family performed the last rites on Thursday without informing authorities immediately.
