Sivaganga (Tamil Nadu), Feb. 13 -- In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old college student belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) was brutally assaulted and his hands were hacked with a machete by three youths belonging to a dominant upper caste Hindu community at Melapidavur hamlet in Manamadurai taluk of Sivaganga district late on Wednesday evening.
Police sources said here on Thursday that the trio picked up a quarrel with the victim, identified as R.Ayyasamy, a third year BSc Mathematics student of Government Arts College at Sivaganga, after a Royal Enfield motorbike he was riding to his home from the college avoided hitting an elderly man who suddenly crossed the road.
