Chennai, Oct. 8 -- Tamil Nadu has so far reported eight deaths due to dengue fever this year, Health Minister Ma Subramanian said, asserting that the situation was well under control despite the state recording the highest caseload in the last five years.

In a statement issued after a function last evening, the minister said the state had recorded 15,796 dengue cases so far.

Following a review meeting on preparedness for the ensuing Northeast monsoon season, he said eight dengue-related deaths were reported this year.

While maintaining that the spread of dengue was currently under control, he pointed out that the caseload this year was among the highest in the past five years.
