Chennai, Aug. 25 -- Taking exception to the State Environmental ImpactAssessment Authority (SEIAA) granting permission for ONGC for oil andgas exploration in Ramanathauram district, the Tamil Nadu government todaysaid it would never allow any hydrocarbon project in the state and that ChiefMinister M K Stalin was firm on it.

The government has also directed the SEIAA to withdraw the clearance grantedto the ONGC for digging wells for hydrocarbon exploration, soon after it came toits attention.

As the news came to light, leaders of various political parties, including the allianceparties of the ruling DMK, like MDMK, urged the government to reconsider itsdecision and withdraw the permission granted to ONGC for exploration.
