Chennai, Oct. 17 -- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin today informed the Assembly that the government will constitute an expert committee to recommend steps for enacting legislation to curb honour killings in the state.
The move comes after persistent demands from the ruling DMK's allies, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), led by Thol Thirumavalavan, and the Left Parties, following a spurt in honour killings. Bringing in such a statute was also a pre-poll promise of the DMK.
Responding to the demands in the House, the Chief Minister announced that the panel would be headed by Justice K N Basha, a retired Madras High Court Judge. The committee will also include legal experts, renowned scholars, and progressive thinkers....
